What does Big Bet mean?
Big Bet is a term most commonly used in poker to describe the larger fixed bet size on the later streets in limit games. It is usually bigger than the bet used earlier in the hand. In a broader sense, the phrase can also refer to any noticeably large wager compared to the usual stake level in the game.
How does it work?
In limit poker, the betting structure is often split into the small bet and the big bet. The smaller amount is used on the early streets, while the higher amount applies on the later ones. This makes the pot grow faster and makes decisions on the turn and river more expensive. In sic bo, big bet is usually understood more literally, as simply a large wager size rather than a formal betting mechanic. In both cases, the core idea is the same: the player is taking on a more significant level of risk.
